Apple Country Fair

Longsjo Classic Bicycle race

First held in 1960 in Fitchburg, it was organized by Guy Morin as a memorial to his teammate Art Longsjo. One of the few races in the country to be designated a “classic”. Longsjo was a 1950s champion cyclist and speed skater. In 1956, he won nearly every bike race he entered. He died an untimely death in a car accident soon after winning the Quebec-to-Montreal race that year.

River Rat Race

Held annually in early April in Athol on the Millers River, the River Rat Race began as a local canoeing event 30 years ago. Today it is a much-celebrated sporting event, drawing contestants from all over the northeastern United States. The race ends in Orange in neighboring Franklin County.

Worcester Flower Show

Organized every February in Worcester city, the flower show presents 40,000 sq. feet covered with flowers and landscapes of every kind.
