Worcester County - Massachusetts Condominiums

Worcester County, “the heart of New England”, holds pride of place in the making of the United States. The industry and enterprise of its citizens both during the Revolutionary War and the American Industrial Revolution have cemented its place in history and earned it a prosperous present and bright future. It was very much in keeping with this tradition that the launching of the first ever liquid fuel rocket by space flight pioneer Robert H. Goddard, a professor at Clark University, took place at Auburn in 1926.

Many veterans of the Revolutionary War (1775-1783) hailed from Worcester. It was from here that the pamphleteer Isaiah Thomas helped unite opposition to the British with his inspiring call to arms. Worcester city was active in Shays' Rebellion (1786-1787), a revolt against excessive land taxation that helped spur the creation of the Constitution of the United States. Residents were also early supporters of reform movements such as the abolition of slavery in the United States. Women’s rights too gathered momentum in Worcester with the first national women's rights convention being held in Worcester city in 1850.

This thriving central Massachusetts region played a crucial role in the American Industrial Revolution. It was here that one of the country’s first internal commercial waterways was established in 1828 with the building of the Blackstone Canal. This spurred the industrial development of the region, making Worcester, with Worcester city playing a key role, the home to industrial innovation. It was here that new methods of making wire, textiles, grinding wheels, and envelopes were developed. In almost every town of the county mills and foundries were set up in the spirit of the new age.

The industrial tradition continues today with manufactures that include machinery, metal goods, chemicals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, glass, electrical equipment, textiles, clothing, and shoes. There is also a printing and publishing industry. The “new wave’ industries of biotechnology and information technology have put down roots here too in a big way. The presence of state—of-the-art biotech and infotech parks has ensured that cutting edge research and business development is being carried on in the county. Being in the backyard of America’s intellectual belt has certainly rubbed off on Worcester. Many renowned educational institutions are based in the county too.

Apart from being a thriving industrial region, Worcester is the ideal weekend getaway. It offers plenty of quiet spots where one can enjoy nature’s bounty. One of them is Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg which is the lake with the longest name in the world. There also exists a profusion of cultural events and institutions for art aficionados.
